This work is for my BA degree show at Chelsea College of Arts. I tried to create a chapel-like space consisting of four parts: a painting, a table made of carbonised wood panels with a wax object on it, a container made of the same material with paper ashes in it, and a re-arrangement of Bach's choral with footsteps sound effects. The windows are covered by translucent material, so the viewers can only see sunlight in the painting but not in the room itself.
This site-specific work explores the relationship between pictorial space and real space and the atmosphere in those spaces. The room setting could be seen as a reflection of the painting but in a surreal and eerie way. I want to provide an immersive experience of the chapel space by indicating the atmosphere rather than duplicating the interior structures of an existing sacred space.
